Note - EasyGate's other swing opener systems are low voltage (12 or 24v) systems and operate from a plug in stand alone transformer. You do not need mains power at the gate.
The Solar powered E8/500S Single Swing Gate Opener Kit is a powerful 12 volt swing gate automation that can be fitted to most gate installations.
Suitable for light weight single swing gates such as farm pipe gates.
Supplied with a 30 watt solar panel and upgraded 12 v 12amp hr battery.

Installing your EasyGate 12v Solar Panel
1. Fix the solar panel to a solid fence post or wall next to your battery where the panel will face due north. It must be in the path of the sun for a minimum 8 hours of the day. Trees, hills and buildings etc while block much needed sunlight and are the main cause of the solar system failure to effectively charge your battery. The output of the Solar Panel is variable during the day depending on the intensity of the sun and the angle of the rays striking the panel. It is recommended you position the panel as close to the gate opener as possible to avoid voltage drop to the battery.
2. Mount the panel North Facing and maintain the proper angle of approx. 60 degrees (from level) to the sun. This will change from summer to winter due to the sun dropping in the sky as it moves from East to west.
3. Regular cleaning (warm soapy water) of the panel will aid in the maximizing energy produced.
The output may vary from a few milli volts to as much as 30 volts.
IMPORTANT: You MUST use a suitable 240v rated cable that is NZ safety approved to extend the solar panel cable. Failure to do this may result in electrical shock. Never use telephone wire, network cable as these are less than 0.05mm.
IMPORTANT: Fit moisture resistant wire connections to reduce voltage loose and system charging failure. Always use a suitable solar regulator between the solar panel and the control board and battery.
Always check with a volt meter the correct polarity of the wires prior to connecting. Failure to do this may result in electrical shock, short circuiting and damage to electronic devices which will also void your warranty.
Solar panel to solar regulator
GREEN solar panel wire to the (+) POSITIVE Solar regulator terminal.
BROWN solar panel wire to the (–) NEGATIVE Solar regulator terminal.
12v solar regulator to gate opener battery
RED solar regulator wire from the (+) POSITIVE BATTERY terminal to the red (+) battery terminal.
BLACK solar regulator wire from the (-) NEGITIVE BATTERY terminal to the black (-) battery terminal.
Check the regulator charging indicator light of the battery is “ON”.
EasyGate recommend you invest in a quality battery charger plus a voltage meter and have a fully charged backup battery available to swap out the standard battery when necessary.
Note: You will need to complete all wiring to check the output of the solar regulator.
Correct gate setup is an important to get the least amount of working energy (friction) used by the motors and any extra power draw from other power using additional products will affect the overall charging performance. To increase your battery storage amps add a larger battery such as a deep cycle battery. You can also add additional solar panels placed in parallel to increase wattage from the same sun intensity. Wooden gates use a lot more energy from the battery than standard pipe gates due to weight and wind age, hence are not recommended to solar power. High cycle rates (open/close/open/close etc) in a short time can use up the standard battery storage very quickly and if you do not have sufficient sun to recharge the supplied battery, your gate will not function correctly. Options are you install a larger battery and solar panel (not supplied).
Remember solar power relies on direct sun to the panel to top up your battery. If your usage is higher than the solar panels ability to top up the battery….you will need to upgrade or change the current system to cope accordingly.
