Gate Ordering Questions

Can You Supply An Electric | Automatic Opening Gate?

Yes, we certainly can. EasyGate have electric (or automatic) gate openers that use low voltage - most often 24v - motors. This makes them easy to add on to most gates - you DO NOT need mains power at the gate.

Think of our gate automation as a 'bolt on' kit. So you can get a brand new gate from us and the automation at the same time. Or you can get just a gate initially and open it manually, with the option of adding automation later.

Or you can get just an electric gate opener to use on an existing gate.

With a gate motor kit from EasyGate you get remotes and a keypad included with it.

We can arrange delivery New Zealand wide.

What measurements do I need to give you for a Swing gate?

Your first step is to decide whether you want a single swing, or double swing gate. Next, what design style you would like it to be - e.g. our Manor design, Chateau (arch top), Slat, Tongue & Groove, or other choice.

Tell EasyGate these two pieces of information, plus the following two measurements:

1. Height - the finished height above the ground you would like the top of the gate to be (we build to an installed height based on allowing a 40mm clearance at the bottom).

2. Gap between your Post. Measure (accurately) the distance from inside face to inside face of your posts.

When custom building your gate EasyGate will take the Post Gap measurement you give us, and take off an allowance for the hinges and closing gap.

As standard EasyGate includes adjustable steel hinges with our swing gates. These have a threaded rod that goes through the gate frame, and allows you some adjustment in or out during installation.

What colour options are available?

Any of the standard aluminium powder coating colours are possible.

However we have a group of the most common requested colours that we stock the powder for, versus less common requests that need to be custom quoted and the powder ordered in for.

Please read through our powder colour options page here.

If you are wanting to match the colour of your aluminium joinery, or coloursteel roof, then just let us know what that colour is.

We are NOT able to match to paint colours - if you are wanting to get a similar colour to a paint colour then it is up to YOU to choose what you are happy with as the closest aluminium powder colour.

Our standard pricing for picket style gates is based on Satin Black - as it suits many driveways, and so we get components such as hinges or brackets done in bulk in Satin Black. If you would like your gates a different colour and the hinges or brackets etc to match, there is a surcharge to cover the powder coating of those.

What measurements do I need to give you for a Sliding gate?

1. The finished height you would like the gate to be e.g. 1.5m or 1.8m high from the ground (Also can be referred to as the installed height). We will take off an allowance for the wheels and wheel track when we build the gate.

2. The length you want the frame to be. For sliding gate this is usually a bit more than the distance between your posts. As a general guideline we suggest allowing for 50mm overlap of your posts at each end, however this is case by case and you may want more overlap. Factors can include just where you want to position your end catcher or roller guide bracket.

3. For gate styles such as the Louvre, Tongue & Groove, Slat, or frame only we need to know which end to place the 'tails'. These are a 300mm extension of the top and bottom rails that Easygate adds on. When standing outside the property (road side), will the gate slide open from the left to the right; or from the right to the left?

Can you visit our property and measure up or install our gate?

You get to save $$ by dealing direct with the manufacturer for your gate. To give you the best deal we concentrate on what we do best - building fantastic gates and supplying the automation to go with them.

Unfortunately this means we're just not set up for making site visits or doing installation.

Many people are happy to take their own measurements and provide them to us to manufacture, and then DIY install. Or you can use an independent contractor close to you.

Which type of gate - Sliding or Swing?

It is often a personal choices which type you buy, or for some people it will be dictated by their property characteristics eg is there space for a sliding gate to open in to, or if there is sufficient space for the opening arch of a swing gate(s).

The swing gate is the easiest to install. The sliding gate is good because of its self-locking ability and space saving advantages but needs concrete footings to be poured thus requiring more installation work.

How does the remote controller work?

Both swing and sliding gate openers include small remote controllers, which activate the opener, just like an automatic garage door. To OPEN or CLOSE the gate, simply push the button on the remote control ONCE.

Most of our automation models have an auto-close function, which you can choose to have on, with different timing delays, or off. With it on you would press the remote once, and after the set delay it will automatically close again.
